I’ve seen variations of this meme going around, but I had to fix it because in 2016 I was not happy-go-lucky going into the polls. I had a mission, and I wasn’t gonna let an evil Cheeto win. Unfortunately, he did.
“Me, voting in 2020” would basically just be the entire Bucky/Steve/Tony fight scene at the end of CA:CW, possibly followed by a sabbatical in Wakanda, depending on the results.
Last night my sister and I went to get our nails done at a salon. It was near the end of the day so we were the only customers in there. We were sitting waiting for our nails to dry and the owner, a middle aged Asian man, came up to us with his ballot. He asked, heavily accented, if my sister and I could help him understand the measures. Obviously we were happy to! We sat there with our nails in front of a fan and explained each measure and he voted right there in front of us, two complete strangers. It’s quickly become one of my favorite interactions I’ve ever had with a stranger. We were separated by so many things, race, language, age, upbringing, gender. I could go on. But last night, in an empty salon, we came together as Americans and helped each other. I hope more people who are native English speakers or native born Americans will help out in the same way. It’s so important that people know what they’re voting on, especially groups that will be affected the most like minorities and immigrants.
